	The New York Senate has recently passed a temporary ban on a commercial process called hydraulic fracturing. Fracturing is a process where chemicals are inserted into the Earth’s crust and create fissures that allow natural gas to seep to the surface for collection. This cost effective extraction method offers great financial rewards for businesses as well as a much needed tax revenue source for the state. However, water pollution and long term health consequences related to it have been identified as major contributors to the ban, which received a 45-9 supporting vote and delayed future fracturing practices in New York for another 6 months.
